FINAL RESULTS HERE!The 2nd (re)annual La Tierra Torture mountain bike race! The low-down: The 2nd annual "New Torture" is back. The
race exceeded our expectations last year, and we've improved a number
of things; we'll have an official timing company bringing near-instant
results, the lap/start/finish area will be clearer and we'll be extending
the course — making it faster with a better flow, AND it ought to
have far less sand. Mama nature has given us some real winter this
year, so the course is bedding down nice.
Building on the success of last year's event — we're bringing back the custom
jersey program, new graphics, colors, and race logo. Best of all
— if you're registered prior to March 9 th, we ought to be able to
guarantee your size! After that, we'll order the rest based on typical
size distributions. Cut-off is still 100 Jerseys, so register asap. Race #3 in the New Mexico Off-Road Series - Sunday May 6th, 2007 Where: Northwest Quadrant/La Tierra Trails; something new, something old, something borrowed! Close to town and easy to get to. Click here for a area map / venue location. Course: Aproximate 9.5 mile lap(s) in Santa Fe’s Northwest Quadrant — a mix of rolling, technical, rocky fast and fun singletrack and double track — and a giant roller coaster of an arroyo crossing! Tire Sealant recommended. Beginners to do 1 lap, Sport 2, Pro/Expert 3. Click here for 2007 course map. Any significant changes to the course will be noted, and the new map uploaded as soon as the mud dries out! Start Time: 9AM Well, what else? Weather is hard to predict as May can be Hot, Perfect, or cool. As always at high altitude — hydrate well and bring sunblock. Santa Fe is at 7,000 feet, so bring your lungs as well. The La Tierra Torture is held on City of Santa Fe Open Space — on the La Tierra Trails in the Northwest Quadrant, just at the edge of town. Easy venue access off the By-Pass / Rte. 599 via Camino de los Montoyas. Be sure to thank all the locals and Sponsors who've invested a lot of time and effort supporting the event, working to build & buff the trails, to keep the area free from illegal dumping, ATVs, and other assorted rough-and-tumble New Mexico outdoor activities (like shooting your old toilet with a 12 gauge). The course is on a lot of the terrain we raced through last year — just in much better condition, and running primarily in the opposite direction. We're working to include a little more variety and extend the laps by about a mile or so — so it should feel a lot different. What we're keeping the same is the central start/finish/lap area off the main access road that pinches down to offer spectators / support 'crew' easy access to their racers. New this year is a third loop that comes up to & through that same start / finish area so friends and family get THREE chances to cheer, heckle, or hand up food/drink per lap. Local Info: Not affiliated with the race, but close to the Venue is The Lodge at Santa Fe — within a minute or two driving or 10-15 minutes ride time to the start/finish area. A little further away, but close to downtown is the Sage Inn on Cerrillos Rd. — pretty decent & cost effective for Santa Fe (be sure to reserve your room online for best price). The local Whole Foods is just a few doors down as well. License: Beginner, Single Speed & Sport will have 1-day licenses available, Pro/Expert and anyone looking to accrue NMORS series points must hold an annual license. (Licenses available at venue.) Click Here for USAC Mountain Bike waiver, fill it out and bring it to registration/packet pick-up. Registration: Register 3 ways:
Other Information: Pre-register to insure your preference for custom jersey size Limited to first 100 entrants, first come, first serve. Please include your jersey size in misc. registration info. UPDATE 13 APRIL 2007: We still have 20 or so jerseys avaialable for early registered racers as of Friday April 13th , and the course is shaping up well! We're running the giant roller coaster / arroyo crossing the "correct" direction so you'll not have to slog through the sand AND ride uphill, and in fact may catch some air coming through that area now! UPDATE 28 APRIL 2007: This past week saw a surge in pre-registered racers - so while we still have plenty of room left (250 racer cap), the jerseys are all spoken for! Also - to clarify; on-site registration & packet pick-up will take place at the venue both Saturday from 10AM - 2PM, and Sunday - race morning - from 6:30AM to 8AM. Follow the signs in from Camino de los Montoyas! IN ADDITION: Atalya Search and Rescue, recently certified by the Rocky Mountain Region Mountain Rescue Association - who provide invaluable event first aid -will be holding a fund-raising raffle.
